Vicky Sturrs is Head of Learning & Civic Engagement at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art (appointed 2017). She manages the strategic vision and programming of an ambitious and innovative learning and civic engagement programme valuing mutual exchange, playfulness, and care. Alongside instigating a strand of democratic social initiatives across Gateshead, Vicky’s practice highlights include the development of a series of play-led exhibitions including Infinity Pitch by Pester & Rossi, THE CITY IS WHERE WE’RE GOING NEXT by Simon & Tom Bloor, Play Rebellion by Pippa Hale and the forthcoming 2021 show Equal Play by Albert Potrony.
Previously, Vicky was BALTIC’s Schools and Colleges Programmer for four years. Before that she held the Education Officer post at mima, Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art, for four years and completed her Masters in Art Museum and Gallery Education at Newcastle University.
Having taught on the MA Fine Art and Education, Vicky now manages BALTIC’s partnership with Northumbria University and the resulting relationship with the BxNU Institute; developing shared vision for supporting creative talent development, place-making, public engagement and artistic excellence. She is a Fellow of the RSA, trustee of Lawnmowers Independent Theatre Company and was inaugural Chair of the Gateshead LCEP 2018-2020.
